Allah Ghazanfar ended up busting Harbhajan Singh's all-time record for MI during clash against LSG

Allah Ghazanfar achieved this feat after getting rid off LSG's Josh Inglis

Mumbai Indians’ (MI) breakout spinner Allah Ghazanfar etched his name into the franchise's record books during the high-stakes IPL 2026 encounter at Wankhede Stadium on May 4. By dismissing Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Josh Inglis in just the third over, the young Afghan international provided a crucial early breakthrough. This wicket marked a significant milestone, as Ghazanfar officially became Mumbai Indians spinner with the most wickets in the Powerplay during a single IPL season.

With this dismissal, Ghazanfar took his Powerplay tally for the 2026 season to six wickets, surpassing the previous record of five set by legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh back in 2011. The wicket itself was a display of tactical brilliance; Ghazanfar deceived Inglis with a clever carrom ball, forcing a miscued pull shot that resulted in a high top edge. Suryakumar Yadav, stationed at mid-on, tracked the ball perfectly to complete a well-judged catch, sending Inglis back to the dugout for 13.

While Ghazanfar now leads the seasonal spin charts, the overall franchise record for Powerplay dominance remains with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Despite enduring a difficult 2026 campaign, Bumrah still sits atop the career leaderboard for MI with 40 Powerplay wickets. He is followed by franchise icons Lasith Malinga with 37, and both Trent Boult and Mitchell McClenaghan, who remain tied for third place with 31 wickets each during the opening six overs.
