The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) fined Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya after his team's three-wicket defeat against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI skipper Hardik has been penalised by the BCCI for an over-rate offence during their last clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
The five-time champions breached the time limit to complete their quota of overs while defending 147 (target revised as per DLS), the five-time champions allowed only four fielders outside the inner ring in the final over from which GT needed 15 to win after a short rain-break.
Hardik Pandya has been fined for RS 24 lakh, and the rest of the Mumbai Indians XI, including impact player individually fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
Apart from MI, Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra was also fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.20, which pertains to the conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game, and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction.
Coming back to the match, GT defeated MI by three wickets via the DLS method in a rain-affected match in Mumbai to seal the top spot in the points table. Drizzle started at began at the start of the second innings and became heavier in the 14th over, leading to the first interruption. Rain returned again after the 18th over when GT needed 24 runs from 12 balls. Although GT were ahead of the par score for most of the innings, they fell behind by five runs when the game was stopped in the 18th over.
MI are currently on number four in the points table and the Hardik Pandya-led side will now face Punjab Kings for their upcoming clash, which is scheduled to take place on May 11 at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
