Ravindra Jadeja was banned from playing in third IPL season.

Jadeja played for now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala before joining CSK.

Jadeja is CSK's leading wicket-taker among current players.

England's Harry Brook became the first overseas player to get banned from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Delhi Capitals' (DC) Brook pulled out of IPL 2025 to focus on international cricket. It led to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banning him from playing in IPL for next two seasons as well. While this rule was implemented for the first time, there is one Indian player who was banned for one season, Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) Ravindra Jadeja.

The ban dates back to 2010. Star India all-rounder was already an IPL-winner as he was one of the early finds of Rajasthan Royals (RR). After the 2009 season, he did not sign a two-year deal but took the one-year contract extension instead. But, the mistake he made was negotiating with the other franchise to get a better deal. The Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) and the IPL governing bodies learned about Jadeja's off-the-field negotiations and took the harsh decision to ban him for one year on the grounds of 'breaching players guidelines'.

"Based on a unanimous decision taken by the IPL Governing Council and on instructions from the President of the BCCI, India cricketer Ravindra Jadeja was handed out a one year playing ban. He will not be allowed to play for any IPL team for the next one year," IPL had said in a statement at the time.

"The ban was on account of Ravindra Jadeja not signing the renewal contract with the Rajasthan Royals and attempting, instead to negotiate a larger financial contract with some of the other IPL franchises. Thus, resulting in a serious non-adherence to the IPL player guidelines," it said.

In 2011, he played for now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala. After the franchise was terminated, he was roped in by MS Dhoni-led CSK.

Jadeja's journey at CSK

Jadeja has been an integral part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since he joined the franchise in the 2012 edition. Had the deal gone through, he would have been a part of their rival franchise Mumbai Indians (MI). Since joining CSK, he has been part of three IPL title wins. In IPL 2022, he was named Dhoni's successor as captain. But captaincy did not suit Jadeja as CSK lost six out of eight games under him. He stepped down as captain and Dhoni took over again. In 2023, CSK won the title again.

Jadeja is CSK's second-highest wicket-taker. The left-arm spinner has 142 wickets from 186 games at an average of 28.85 including one fifer and three four-fers. With the bat, he has scored 2,053 runs from 135 innings at an average of 27.37, including three fifties. He held his nerves in IPL 2023 final and scored 10 runs off last two balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohit Sharma.
