Rohit Sharma is ramping up his training, signaling a potential comeback for Mumbai Indians (MI) in their upcoming IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Wankhede Stadium on April 29. The Hitman has been sidelined since April 12, when he sustained a hamstring injury during MI’s defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Rohit Sharma to feature in MI vs SRH clash?
In the time since his injury, Rohit has been engaged in a rigorous rehabilitation program under the close supervision of the team's medical and support staff. Reports indicate that he is highly likely to be cleared for selection against the Sunrisers. Throughout his recovery, the former India captain has successfully completed gym work and training sessions without experiencing any pain or discomfort, leading the physiotherapy team to express optimism regarding his availability for the upcoming fixture.
Watch Rohit batting in full swing in the nets:
MI returned to their home base in Mumbai on April 26 following a break after their recent game against the Chennai Super Kings in Jamnagar. During an optional training session held that evening, Rohit joined several teammates, including Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma, in the nets. Batting with clear intent and appearing to be in good rhythm, Rohit’s active participation suggests he is nearing a full return to competitive cricket.
Paltans have experimented with several opening combinations to fill Rohit's void. While Quinton de Kock stepped in and initially impressed with a century, he has struggled to make a consistent impact since that performance. His partner in recent matches, Danish Malewar, has also faced difficulties, managing only two runs and appearing likely to step aside once Rohit is ready to play again.
Before being sidelined, the former Mumbai Indians captain had been performing reliably, racking up 137 runs in four matches at an average of 45.67. Given his successful recovery, he now looks set to return for the upcoming match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, offering a significant boost to the team's batting lineup.
