Double blow for MI ahead of KKR clash, 2 star players ruled out of IPL 2026

On the eve of the match against KKR, MI announced that Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa have been ruled out of remainder of IPL 2026 due to injuries.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered a double blow ahead of their Indian  Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 20. MI's Quinton de Kock and Raj Angad Bawa have been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2026. De Kock suffered a tendon injury in his left wrist whereas Bawa has a ligament tear in his right thumb. MI said that their replacements will be announced in due course.

“Both Quinton and Raj Bawa will continue their rehab in their respective homes, with support and guidance from the Mumbai Indians medical team to help them return to play as soon as possible,” MI said in a statement. 

 

 

“Mumbai Indians wishes them a quick recovery and will announce replacements as per IPL guidelines,” the five-time IPL-winning champions added.

MI already have a few injury concerns. Skipper Hardik Pandya has missed a few games due to back spasm. In addition, their stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav missed the previous game due to personal reasons, leading to Jasprit Bumrah making his IPL captaincy debut.

MI face KKR at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 20. MI are already out of playoffs race with eight losses from 12 games. After the KKR clash, they face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 24 at Wankhede Stadium. Currently, they are placed ninth on the points table and will look to avoid the wooden spoon. 

Bawa's short stint for MI in IPL 2026 

Bawa played three games in the season, picking up two wickets at an average of 25. His economy rate is 12.50 runs per over. He got to bat in one innings and scored 16 runs from 14 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He also bowled the final over against RCB, failing to defend 15 runs in the final over. 

De Kock scores ton on comeback before getting injured

De Kock played three games for MI in his comeback. On his return, he scored an unbeaten 112 against PBKS in a losing cause. He did not score much in the next two games. From three innings, the Proteas wicketkeeper-batter scored 132 runs from three innings at an average of 66 and strike rate of 162.96.
