Delhi Capitals (DC) opening batter Faf du Plessis is not playing in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) match against the Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Before the match, DC captain Axar Patel chose to bowl first and announced the alteration in the starting lineup during the toss. Abhishek Porel has replaced Du Plessis in the starting lineup; it is unclear if he will open the innings with Jake Fraser McGurk or if KL Rahul, who is currently in form, will be moved up the order once more.

“Unfortunately, the boys used me as an impact player in the last game and I fielded as well, which I regret now, standing up here. I'm not wearing the spikes. I have been really lucky in the last 3 years to finish competitions and not miss out through injury. This is new grounds for me where you are trying to be 100% fit but you are not quite there. The competent in you want to get back as soon as possible. But playing the patient game. Hopefully, I get that right in the next week and get ready for the back end of the tournament,” said Du Plessis ahead of the game.

Du Plessis has amassed 81 runs from three innings thus far this season, including a half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Delhi will therefore have large shoes to fill in the forthcoming match, although they have staff to cover for him. Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, announced that their team would not be changing for the match.
