Punjab Kings (PBKS) and their co-owner Preity Zinta took to social media to dismiss rumours about the team amid a slump in form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. PBKS have spoken against spread of misinformation. The franchise labelled it as ‘fake stories’ aimed to garner ‘cheap engagement’. Initially, PBKS called out ‘sports journalists’ in their statement but deleted it and followed it up with a revised one.
“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction,” PBKS posted on social media.

PBKS co-owner Zinta has spoken against the alleged spread of misinformation about the franchise. Unlike the franchise, she called out ‘verified voices & media professionals’, urging them to cross-check before sharing unverified information.
"There’s a difference between criticism & calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not & will not be taken lightly. I urge everyone — including verified voices & media professionals — to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information. Thank you," Zinta wrote on X.
The statements come after PBKS’ four defeat in a row. PBKS’ social media has been under the scanner of late. They have been called out for sharing content which hasn’t gone down well with supporters of other franchises. For example, the video featuring Shreyas Iyer’s sister after their game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was washed out due to rain.
Where are PBKS in playoffs race?
At one point, PBKS were undefeated after seven games, which included six wins. However, their poor fielding and mediocre bowling has been exposed and it has led to a string of defeats. Currently, they are placed fourth on the points table with 13 points from 11 games. Their next match is against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Dharamsala's HPCA Stadium on May 14.
The Shreyas Iyer-led side needs two wins from remaining three games to cement a spot on the playoffs. If they register one win and two losses, they will have to depend on the result of other games.
