Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel

Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Sooryavanshi celebrates his half-century against Royal Challengers Bengaluru while teammate Dhruv Jurel celebrates.

Story Highlights:

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi needs 99 more runs to complete 1,000 T20 runs.

Sooryavanshi needs 48 more runs to become joint-fastest to 500 IPL runs.

Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has a golden chance to etch his name in T20 record books. While Sooryavanshi has already broken multiple records for thrashing bowlers around the park, he can become the joint-fastest to 1,000 T20 runs as well (innings taken).

Currently, the record belongs to former Australia batters Brad Hodge and Shaun Marsh. Hodge took 23 innings to score 1,000 T20 runs. He achieved the feat in July 2006, even before the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup in 2007. In June 2008, Marsh achieved the feat from 23 innings as well. He played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) during this period as well.

So far, Sooryavanshi has scored 901 runs from 22 innings at an average of 42.90 and strike rate of 215.55, featuring three centuries and as many fifties. If he scores a century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 13, he will become the joint-fastest to 1,000 T20 runs.

If not the fastest, then a seat with Hayden

If Sooryavanshi doesn’t achieve the feat in the next match, he can still match another former Australian cricketer on the list. Matthew Hayden completed 1,000 T20 runs in 2009, his 24th T20 innings. After the SRH clash, Royals will go up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens on April 19.

Sooryavanshi’s chance to break Padikkal’s record

Among players from full-member nations, the next on the list is Devdutt Padikkal. The RCB opener completed 1,000 T20 runs from 25 innings. Also, he achieved the feat within a year of his T20 debut. Sooryavanshi also has the chance to break the record for fastest Indian to 1,000 T20 runs in terms of innings taken.

Fastest Indian to 500 IPL runs

Sooryavanshi also has the chance to equal former KKR captain Gautam Gambhir's record for fastest to 500 IPL runs. Marsh took 10 innings to achieve the feat, followed by England's Jonny Bairstow (11), Gambhir (12), West Indies' Lendl Simmons (12) and Hayden (12).

Currently, the 15-year-old has 452 runs from 11 innings in IPL career, averaging just over 41 and striking at nearly 230. He has a century and three fifties. He needs 48 more runs against SRH to achieve the feat.

Note: It goes without saying that Sooryavanshi will be the youngest to achieve the above mentioned feats.
