Former England cricketer-turned-commentator Kevin Pietersen; KKR's Cameron Green returns to dugout after losing his wicket to Punjab Kings' Xavier Bartlett in IPL 2026.

Story Highlights:

Cameron Green has managed to score just 26 runs in three games.

KKR have Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert waiting in the dugout.

Rain played spoilsport in Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) home clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 6 but not before they lost two early wickets to Xavier Bartlett. KKR's overseas stars Finn Allen and Cameron Green were dismissed cheaply by Bartlett in the second over. Before rain stopped play, KKR were struggling for 25/2 in 3.4 overs. While KKR escaped with one point as the game was abandoned due to incessant rain, former England captain Kevin Pietersen tore into an out-of-form Green who can’t bowl due to back issues. Pietersen chose not to talk about the hefty Rs 25.20 price tag but doesn’t feel Green is good enough to bat at no.3. Instead, he went on to say that Aussie is just a middle-order batter who bowls a bit.

“I'm against talking about the money because the money is something that just happens. These guys don't earn as much money as some of the other sportsmen around the world. But obviously, a lot of people like to talk about what I like to talk about, which is cricketing ability. And whether or not you're good enough to be in a position of power and batting a 3 in an IPL team, you have to be good enough to be able to perform at that level,” Pietersen said on JioHotstar.

“And I don't think that he's good enough to bat at number 3. He's not bowling, so you have a look at what he has done. Yes, I've seen his, he got a 100 in Mumbai a couple of years ago. I've not seen enough of Cam Green to warrant batting a 3 here and taking on that responsibility. He's a middle-order batter who bowls a bit, and that's what he does,” he added.

Green’s poor form continues

Green has registered scores of 18, 2 and 4 against Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and PBKS respectively in this season. He was out of form in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Also, as per Cricket Australia, he can’t bowl until at least one more game of KKR.

KKR’s benched overseas stars

Meanwhile, KKR have ignored their other overseas batters Rovman Powell and Tim Seifert. Powell made it to the side against PBKS in the absence of Sunil Narine but didn’t get to bat. Also, Seifert was in good form in T20 World Cup 2026 but is yet to play a game. Rachin Ravindra is another option. Also, Ravindra can contribute with his left-arm spin.
