IPL 2025, DC vs LSG: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crumbled under pressure in the slog overs as they suffered a one-wicket defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC). Former DC skipper Rishabh Pant on his LSG debut was sloppy behind the stumps as he missed a stumping chance of Mohit Sharma in the final over of the run chase which was followed by Ashutosh Sharma finishing the match with a maximum.

In the final over, left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed bowled an excellent delivery which turned away from Mohit's bat and hit his pad. Pant missed a stumping chance and opted for DRS. The ball was missing the stumps and Mohit took a quick single off next delivery which was followed by Ashutosh hitting the ball over the fence. After the defeat, Pant does not want to focus on the missed stumping but intends to play 'better cricket'.

"Definitely luck plays a part in this game and if it could have missed his (Mohit Sharma's) pads, it was a chance for stumping. But these things happen in the game of cricket, you can't focus on these things, but rather you need to play better cricket," Pant said in the post-match presentation.

This is the highest successful run chase against LSG. Pant lauded Ashutosh, debutant Vipraj Nigam and Tristan Stubbs for helping DC recover from 65/5 in the run chase of 210. He feels there was enough assistance for the bowlers and there was a need to get the basics right.

"I think they had a couple of good partnerships. One with Stubbs, with Ashutosh and one with one other guy (Vipraj Nigam.) I think he (Nigam) did a pretty good job and took the game away from us. There was enough for the bowlers, but I think we could have done the basics right," the wicketkeeper-batter said.

Pant happy with top-order

Pant chose to look at positives from the match as their top-order fired in the absence of experienced pacers who battled their respective injuries.

"I think our top-order batters played really well and I think it was a pretty good score on this wicket. As a team we are looking to take positives from every match and as a team we are looking to learn from it (every match.) The more basics we do right, the more it is going to be better for us in the future. We got early wickets, but we knew it was a good wicket to bat on. We had to keep doing the basics right more often than not," the southpaw said.

LSG's next clash

Pant departed for a six-ball duck on his LSG debut. The most expensive IPL player at Rs 27 crore will be seen in action again when LSG go up against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 27 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
