Story Highlights:

PBKS are currently enjoying their time at the top of the IPL 2026 points table

And the biggest reason behind PBKS' success is their captain Shreyas Iyer

Punjab Kings' captain Shreyas Iyer has been a force to be reckoned with in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. Beyond his individual performances, Iyer's leadership has garnered considerable acclaim, establishing him as a central figure for his franchise.

Shreyas Iyer hates hearing 'impossible'

PBKS have shed that reputation this season, emerging instead as a highly disciplined and well-drilled unit. Much of this transformation is attributed to Iyer, who has been instrumental in the team's success through his dual contributions as a prolific batter and an astute captain. Iyer’s profound influence is clearly visible in the team's impressive, unbeaten start to the tournament. Riding high on this momentum, Punjab Kings are now turning their attention toward their next challenge as they prepare to square off against the Lucknow Super Giants.

In a teaser for the show 'Believe' on JioHotstar, hosted by Irfan Pathan, Iyer offered a glimpse into his personality and professional outlook. During the interview, Pathan lauded the Mumbaikar as a player with the 'Midas touch'. Often affectionately dubbed the 'Sarpanch' by his PBKS teammates, Iyer explained his decision-making process, noting, "Honestly speaking, main instinctive type hoon" (Honestly speaking, I am an instinctive type).

I want to be not out and finish the game: Shreyas Iyer

Iyer’s presence has been transformative for the northern franchise, injecting stability, grit, and a fearless mentality that has allowed the team to rise to the challenge against giants like RCB, MI, KKR, and CSK. More than his tactical acumen, he has bolstered the side's late-innings strength, stating, "I want to be not out and finish the game." Ultimately, his mindset is defined by a relentless drive and an refusal to accept limitations, as he explicitly rejects the very notion of anything being "impossible."

“It’s impossible – I hate hearing that. Once you are in control of emotions, you can be very clear in mindset and be decisive. It’s not over till last ball is done. For me winning is everything. Mujhe bole ki yeh nahi sak saktaa (If someone tells me if I can’t do something)…trigger ho jaata hai mind mein ki ekdum achha karke hi dikhaana hai," he added.

PBKS are currently the table toppers with nine points in a total of five matches and will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 19.
