Rain halted the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on May 5.
However, rain has simmered down a bit and there is possibility of a match. Let's know the what will be SRH's target against DC if the match gets reduced to a five-over chase.
SRH will be tasked to chase a target of 42 runs in case a five-over match match takes place.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first by Pat Cummins, DC top order encountered significant difficulties in scoring runs. Cummins delivered a destructive spell, claiming the wickets of Karun Nair, Abishek Porel, and Faf du Plessis, thereby putting the Capitals under immense pressure early in their innings. The team then took a cautious approach to rebuild, but they suffered further setbacks, losing two more wickets within the first eight overs. Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma initiated a recovery effort, but their partnership ultimately proved insufficient as the Capitals could only manage to reach a total of 133 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
In the event that the match is abandoned due to rain, both participating teams will receive one point each. Should a complete washout occur, Sunrisers Hyderabad will be eliminated from the IPL 2025 competition. This is because even if they were to win all of their remaining three matches, they could only attain a maximum of 13 points, which would likely be insufficient for playoff qualification.
On the other hand, if the match results in a washout, Delhi Capitals will reach a total of 13 points. With three matches still to play, this points tally provides them with a viable pathway to the playoffs, as they could still qualify even if they win just two of their remaining fixtures.
