Star Indian batter Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Delhi Capitals took the bid to 25 crores for him. The middle-order batter ended Kolkata Knight Riders' trophy drought by leading them to the title last year and making them the champion for the third time. However, his final bid was 26.75 crores which was put by Punjab Kings.
Iyer has played 116 matches in IPL and has amassed 3127 runs with an average of 32.23 and a strike rate 127.47. He also has 21 fifty-plus scores and a high score of 96. He has been a captain of both Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Rider leading them both in playoffs and finals.
PBKS get two big names
Before getting Iyer, Punjab Kings also used their RTM for the premium Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh for 18 crores. SRH was eager to get the southpaw as well but Punjab had their mind set and they got their player back which they released prior to the auction.
The only surprise here was that everyone was speculating that Punjab would break the bank for Rishabh Pant citing the history between the player and their new coach Ricky Ponting who is really fond of the Indian star. However, they have probably gotten their new captain in Iyer who will now be a part of his third IPL franchise after brief stints at DC and KKR.
