Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) hopes of securing a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs have taken a hit following their match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was abandoned due to incessant rain on April 26. The washed out match saw both the teams splitting the points which has impacted KKR's position in the league standings and made their path to the knockout stage considerably more challenging.
Having now gone three consecutive matches without a win, Kolkata Knight Riders continue to languish in the seventh position in the IPL 2025 standings with a total of six points and a net run rate of +0.212. Their recent struggles have put them in a precarious situation as the playoff race intensifies.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings benefited from the shared points, which allowed them to reclaim a spot within the top four teams in the standings. This movement pushed the Mumbai Indians down to fifth place. The rain interruption occurred after just the first over of Punjab's innings. While the deadline for a shortened five-over game was set at 11:44 PM Indian Standard Time, the match officials ultimately decided to call off the proceedings well before that cutoff time, ensuring both teams walked away with a single point.
Meanwhile, the top three positions in the IPL 2025 standings remained unchanged. The Gujarat Titans (GT), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continue to occupy the leading spots, with all three teams tied on 12 points. The only differentiating factor among them is their net run rate (NRR). Currently, the Gujarat Titans hold the coveted top position in the table, thanks to their significantly superior net run rate of +1.104.
This is how the IPL 2025 points table after KKR vs PBSK's abandoned game:
