IPL 2026: MS Dhoni to play against SRH? Former CSK star drops massive update ahead of key clash

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) failed to register a win in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday, May 15 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side were left disappointed, as the bowling attack couldn't defend 188 runs in the second innings.

It's pretty evident that the Yellow Army is badly missing a senior presence like MS Dhoni on the field. However, the mystery around his maiden appearance in the ongoing season. The former CSK skipper suffered a calf injury before the start of the season, due to which he hasn't played a single game this season.

MS Dhoni to return in game vs SRH?

However in a surprising turn of events, former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has dropped an optimistic update on Dhoni's on field comeback. On his official YouTube Channel, Ashwin noted the importance of MS Dhoni's presence, as he is a quality hitter against pacers.

"Even now, if we talk about a quality pace hitter, I think it's him," Ashwin said, underscoring Dhoni’s enduring value to a middle order that has occasionally lacked late-innings impetus.

While talking further, Ashwin said he feels MS Dhoni might appear in CSK's clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as he is reportedly ready to

"Let's see. I have a feeling that against SunRisers Hyderabad, there is a good chance of him playing. Let's wait and see how it goes." said Ashwin.

"As far as I have heard, he has been ready to take the field for the last two-three games," Ashwin added.

After enduring a tough loss vs LSG, CSK will look to secure a win in their upcoming clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, 18 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The clash will be significant for the Yellow Army, as a win could make sure their presence in the race to playoffs
