Samson’s blazing 87* powers CSK to dominant eight-wicket victory over DC.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Secured a comfortable win over Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets while chasing 156 runs on Tuesday, May 5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sanju Samson was the star of the chase, scoring unbeaten 87 of 31 balls, while Kartik Sharma also made a valuable contribution of 41 not out off 31.

Half of DC back in the pavilion at 69

At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, DC skipper Axar Patel won the toss and elected to bat first against Ruturaj Gaikwad's side. However, the decision seemed to backfire as DC's opening duo of Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul were dismissed early on just 19 off 15 and 12 off 13 respectively. Apart from them, Nitish Rana scored only 15 off 13 and Karun Nair departed after scoring 13 off 13, while Axar Patel failed to stabilize the crumbling innings, as he got out after scoring only 2. As an outcome, DC lost five wickets by the time when they reached 69 runs.

Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs' impactful innings

After losing five wickets at 69, Sameer Rizvi came out to bat as an impact sub and he, along with Tristan Stubs, put an end to the collapse. Stubbs amassed 38 off 31 balls with the help of one four and two sixes, on the other hand Sameer Rizvi stayed unbeaten on 40 off 24, smashing four sixes. Because of their brave efforts, DC managed 155/7 after the end of 20 overs. Noor Ahmad was the best bowler for CSK, claiming two wickets, while the rest of the bowling unit kept other DC batters in check.

CSK's cautious start

In response, CSK kicked off the second innings with a cautious start while chasing 156. In the first 10 overs, CSK managed to reach 74/2, losing skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad early in the game for just six runs off 12. Coming to bat at No.3, Urvil Patel tried to change the momentum by hitting two straight sixes in the powerplay before being stumped out on Axar Patel's delivery on 17. By the end of the 10th over, Sanju formed (87 of 52) a strong partnership of 100 runs with Kartik Sharma (41 off 31).

Transitioning from 74/2, the duo changed the pace of the chase in the 12 overs when Samson smashed Kuldeep Yadav for 17 runs to complete his half-century in 32 balls. The game changing moment came when T Natarajan leaked 20 runs in the 15th over, which totally took the game away from DC's grip. Samson's unbeaten 87 and Kartik's calculated 41 not-out led CSK to secure a huge eight-wicket win over the Delhi-based franchise.
