Before the practice session began, Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard could not contain his joy as he hoisted a fit-again Jasprit Bumrah into the air. The MI supporters responded by warning Pollard to exercise caution with Bumrah, who had just joined the team ahead of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru match. Bumrah, who has not played since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, was declared fit and joined the MI squad on April 6 after completing his rehabilitation process at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
The Indian pacer continued to train with MI prior to their match against RCB. While some supporters were pleased, others advised Pollard to treat Bumrah carefully. Bumrah appeared to be back to his best during the practice session when he bowled in the nets.
During the press conference, MI coach Mahela Jayawardene made a statement regarding Bumrah, stating that the bowler ought to be available for the RCB match. Bumrah bowled effectively in the nets and had sessions with NCA, according to Jayawardene.
"He's available, he's training today, and should be available [for the RCB game]. He arrived last night. He had his sessions with NCA [now Centre of Excellence] to finalise that, he's been handed over to our physios. He's bowling today, so all good," Jaywardene said in the pre-match press conference.
With an average of 19.03 and 29 wickets in 19 games, Bumrah has a strong record against RCB.
