Siraj's four-fer restricts SRH on 152/8
In their Indian Premier League match here on Sunday, the Gujarat Titans held Sunrisers Hyderabad to 152 for eight with the brilliant numbers of 4/17 from Mohammed Siraj, who bowled with fire in his belly. Siraj came back to add two more wickets to his total on a slow track after dismissing struggling openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma cheaply. Seamer Prasidh Krishna (2/25) and left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (2/24) both had excellent but erratic performances. After SRH was 135 for eight at the beginning of the final over, Ishant Sharma gave up 53 runs in his four overs, enabling them to surpass 150. Head's edge off Siraj sailed past the stumps for a boundary, giving him a fortunate start.
But when the opening flicked one for Sai Sudharsan to finish a brilliant diving catch at mid-wicket, Siraj had the final laugh as the pacer dismissed the Australian danger man. After a few boundaries, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium audience found their voice. But Siraj had other ideas. After the batter went the aerial route but misjudged the timing and was caught at mid-on, the pumped-up seamer sent Abhishek back. As the team reached 45 for two at the conclusion of the power play, the SRH openers' troubles in this IPL season persisted. Even though the visitors were in control of the game at that point, Glenn Phillips' injury caused some nervous moments. Following their treatment by physio, Phillips hobbled off the field.
When he mishandled a draw off a Prasidh Krishna short ball to deep square leg, where Ishant finished the catch, Ishan Kishan (17) lost his life. With a fifty-run partnership for the fourth wicket, Heinrich Klaasen (27 off 19 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (31 off 34 balls) attempted to salvage the SRH innings. During this phase, GT smashed a few fours and a six from the South African powerhouse against Rashid Khan. However, left-arm spinner Sai Kishore took the valuable wicket of Klaasen, whose leg stump was affected as he rocked back to use the pull shot, just as SRH appeared to be setting the stage for a respectable score. At the start of the 16th over, with SRH at 105 for five, Reddy too lost his life while attempting to hit Sai Kishore out of the park.
Gill and Sundar steal show with bat
SRH were happy with the star they got as they managed to get two early wickets. Sai Sudharsan (5 off 9 balls) and Jos Butler (0 off 3) were back in the dugout by the fourth over. Shami dismissed Sai, and Cummins got rid of Buttler. However, the 90-run partnership between Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar revived the GT's innings. Shami once again broke this partnership, but it appeared that the game was taken out of their hand. Sundar missed his fifty by one run.
After that Sherfane Rutherford joined Gill in the middle and played a quickfire knock of 35 runs off just 16 balls. Gill remianed unbeaten on 61 runs. This was the fourth consecutive loss for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. They have played 5 games so far and after a dominant first match, they have been in a tough spot. As for GT, they have climbed to the second spot with this win.
