Most title wins to Virat Kohli's runs: 10 IPL records that will not break anytime soon

Indian Premier League (IPL) is the richest cricket league in the world and the inaugural edition of the tournament was played in 2008 where cricketing legends likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Lasith Malinga featured together for a franchise in the tournament. Spin legend Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural title of the tournament.  The tournament witnessed so many iconic performances since 2008. As Indian Premier League's 18th season is about to start. Here are the few records in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that will not break anytime soon. 

Most titles by any team

The most successful team in IPL is Chennai Super Kings. Chennai has won the most number of titles, i.e. five. It has been runner-up five times. Mumbai Indians has also won five titles, but apart from this, it has been runner-up for only one run. No team is even close to this record of Chennai and Mumbai.

Most runs by a batter

Virat Kohli has the most runs in IPL history. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, he scored 8004 runs in 244 innings. After him, Shikhar Dhawan is in second place with 6769 runs. This record of Kohli is also almost impossible to break.

Gayle storm in IPL 2013

Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest individual score in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). On 23 April 2013, he played an innings of 175 not out featuring RCB against Pune Warriors India. It has been almost a decade since his record.

Highest total by a team

Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the record for the highest total by a team score.  Hyderabad scored 287 runs for three wickets against RCB in the last season i.e. on 15 April 2024 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. They broke their own record, which was made a few days earlier against Mumbai Indians. On 27 March 2024, Hyderabad scored 277 runs for three wickets against Mumbai at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.

Lowest IPL total

RCB holds the record for the lowest score in IPL history. On 23 April 2017, RCB's team was all out for just 49 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Biggest run chase in IPL

The Punjab Kings did the biggest run chase in the history of this league. On 26 April 2024, Punjab achieved a target of 262 runs for the loss of two wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Defending lowest totals

Chennai Super Kings holds the record for defending the lowest score. On 20 May 2009, Chennai defended a score of 116 runs against Punjab Kings. Chennai restricted Punjab to 92 runs in 20 overs.

Most run in an IPL season

Virat Kohli holds the record for most runs in a season of IPL. Kohli scored 973 runs in 2016. In the last 17 seasons in IPL history, no other batsman other than Kohli has been able to reach the 900-run mark. In 2023, Shubman Gill scored 890 runs.

Most sixes in IPL

Chris Gayle holds the record for most sixes in IPL. Between 2009 and 2021, he hit a total of 357 sixes. No one is even close to his record. Rohit Sharma is at number two. He has 280 sixes to his name.

Most IPL wickets

Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for most wickets in IPL history. He has 205 wickets to his name. In IPL history, no other batsman other than Chahal has reached the 200-wicket club. Among active cricketers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has 181 wickets, Sunil Narine and R Ashwin have 180 wickets each.
