Mohammad Kaif named the players CSK should go after at the IPL 2026 auction

Kaif feels CSK should sign both Liam Livingstone and Glenn Maxwell at the auction

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) can go after both Liam Livingstone and Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. Both the players are not only renowned power-hitters, but can also contribute well as spinners. With the track at the M.A Chidambaram stadium known to provide help to the turners, the two players can indeed come in handy for the Chennai-based franchise for IPL 2026.

Kaif highlighted how both Livingstone and Maxwell will not only provide stability to CSK's shaky middle-order, but will also help the side with their spin bowling. He also pointed out how the franchise has had a history of having batting depth in the playing XI and thus may be interested in signing the two all-rounders.

“Livingstone will also suit Chennai. He could become their sixth bowler who bats at five. Dhoni does not come up the order now, so they need batters. CSK have a history of batting deep and looking at all-rounders. Overton played because he can bat, same with Curran. Bravo played so many years as he was an all-rounder, Albie Morkel as well.” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

“So they will go behind the likes of Livingstone and Maxwell. Maxwell’s value may have gone down but I feel he will do well if he goes there. He can bowl off-spin with the new ball. He has done it for RCB too. At a ground like Chennai, his bowling will have more value,” he added.

Cameron Green also linked as a target for CSK

One of the players who many have predicted CSK to go after is Cameron Green. The Australian all-rounder, whose last appearance in IPL came in the 2024 season for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, is expected to be one of the players to watch out for during the auction that will take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, CSK retained a total of 16 players while releasing 12 for the next season. They will head into the auction with a purse of INR 43.40 crore, second-highest among the 10 franchises. It remains to be seen as to which players will they go after at the auction.

CSK's current squad

Ruturaj Gaikwad, MS Dhoni, Dewald Brevis, Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel, Devon Conway, Shivam Dube, Jamie Overton, Ramkrishna Ghosh, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, Gurjapneet Singh, Nathan Ellis, Shreyas Gopal, Mukesh Choudhary.
