Ravichandran Ashwin feels Nathan Ellis will play big role for CSK in death overs

Ellis was retained by CSK for IPL 2026

Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin was left thoroughly impressed with Nathan Ellis' performance for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025/26. This comes after the pacer bowler a brilliant spell of 3/30 against the Melbourne Renegades on Monday and played a key role in his team's victory.

Ellis' fine form in BBL

Ellis has so far been in superb form in the ongoing season of BBL so far and has racked up seven scalps in five games. He was retained by CSK for IPL 2026 after he had only featured in one game in the previous season. With Matheesha Pathirana gone, the Australian seamer can go on to play a major role for the side especially in the death overs.

Highlighting his great performances in BBL, Ashwin remarked that Ellis will likely be bowling two out of four overs in the death at home for CSK in IPL 2026.

"The men in yellove will be happy with how he's been shaping up. 4-0-30-3 for Hobart Hurricanes today. Most importantly, 2-0-15-2 at the death, bowling 17 and 20, nailing his yorkers and change of pace. Safe to say two overs of Ellis are locked at the 'Pauk' in the death for the summer of 26?" Ashwin wrote on X.

CSK's strong bowling attack

Alongside Ellis, CSK will also be having the services of pacers like Anshul Kamboj, Khaleel Ahmed, Matt Henry, Zakary Foulkes and more for IPL 2026. It remains to be seen as to which one of them will go onto contribute the most for the team in the upcoming season of the tournament.
