Bumrah will feature in MI's IPL 2026 opener clash vs KKR.

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly checked in at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Notably, Bumrah's last cricketing outing came in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, where India defeated New Zealand in the final to clinch the title.

Why did Jasprit Bumrah report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence?

Bumrah reached the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru as part of a planned workload programme ahead of IPL 2026. The focus of this stint is mainly on fitness and conditioning. The programme has been carefully designed by the BCCI’s medical team, keeping India’s white-ball tour of England in July as a top priority. That tour will include five T20 matches and three ODIs.

Bumrah's performance in the T20 World Cup 2026

Bumrah recently played a big role in India’s success at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final. He picked up four wickets in his spell, helping India defend their title. He finished as one of the top wicket-takers in the tournament alongside Varun Chakaravarthy and was named Player of the Match for his performance in the final against New Zealand.

India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this win, India became the first team to successfully defend a T20 World Cup title and also the first to win it at home.

In the IPL, Bumrah has been a key player for the Mumbai Indians since his debut. He has taken 186 wickets in 148 matches and is now close to breaking the franchise record held by Lasith Malinga. He needs just nine more wickets to become their all-time leading wicket-taker.
