Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton's half-centuries, followed by a clinical bowling performance, powered Mumbai Indians to a dominating 100-run win against Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. RR, who had a forgettable outing in the IPL 2025, has been officially ruled out of the playoffs race of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Misjudging the conditions, RR captain Riyan Parag put the opposition in but Rohit (53 off 36 balls) and Rickelton (61 off 38) put the home team under pressure with a sizzling display of clean hitting.
In their 116-run partnership, Rickelton targeted the quick bowlers while Rohit went after spinners, especially Maheesh Theekshana, who was introduced as early as the third over.
Suryakumar Yadav (48 not out off 23) and skipper Hardik Pandya (48 not out off 23) capitalised on the openers' good work to take the team past 200. The last five overs fetched 71 runs for the Mumbai Indians.
RR's Jofra Archer bowled a tight first over, but the Mumbai openers collected 18 runs off his second. RR's M Theekshana and skipper Riyan Parag were the only two bowlers who managed to pick one wicket each. Parag picked up skipper Rohit's wicket in the 13th over, and M Theekshana got rid of Rickelton in the 12th over.
While chasing, RR failed to get a good start as their last match centurioun Vaibhav Suryavanshi got out on a one-ball duck in the fourth ball of the first over. Soon after Vaibhav's wicket, Yashasvi Jaiswal also got out in the second over. Boult got another breakthrough as he picked Nitish Rana's wicket in the fourth over. After Boult's over, legendary speedster Jasprit Bumrah rattled the Rajasthan-based franchise with a double blow as he picked up Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer on his two consecutive balls.
