Sai Sudharsan etched his name into the history books during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 12.
The stylish GT opener continued his sensational consistency in the tournament and achieved a rare IPL milestone after registering his third consecutive season with 500-plus runs.
Sudharsan played another composed knock at the top of the order, scoring 61 runs off 44 deliveries. The left-hander’s innings helped him take his tally to 501 runs from 12 matches in IPL 2026 while maintaining an impressive strike-rate of 155.10.
Sai Sudharsan joins elite IPL company
With the achievement, Sudharsan became only the fourth batter in IPL history to score 500 or more runs in three successive seasons.
The GT opener joined an elite list featuring Chris Gayle, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.
Gayle achieved the feat between 2011 and 2013, while Dhawan managed it from 2019 to 2021. Kohli recently added his name to the list with three consecutive 500-plus seasons from 2023 to 2025.
However, Sudharsan’s consistency has come with an added aggressive edge that places him in even more exclusive company.
Sudharsan matches special Chris Gayle record
Among all the players who have recorded three back-to-back 500-plus IPL seasons, only Sudharsan and Gayle have maintained a strike-rate above 140 in each of those campaigns.
Sai Sudharsan’s strike-rates across the last three IPL editions stand at 141.29, 156.17 and 155.10, underlining his ability to combine consistency with attacking intent.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of GT’s most reliable performers in recent seasons and continues to strengthen his reputation as one of India’s brightest batting talents in T20 cricket.
