Shubman Gill was vice-captain of T20I team before he was dropped.

Gill has 722 runs in IPL 2026 ahead of the final.

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has been leading the team from the front. In the Qualifier 2, he scored a century in the run chase against Rajasthan Royals (RR), guiding his team to the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). As Gill is in contention for the orange cap again, he was asked about the T20I snub. India are to tour UK (Ireland and England) for T20I series but Gill’s name may not be there considering the options the current team already has. However, Gill is not looking to focus on that and trying to be a better T20 batter and in all formats.

"I'd be happy to play if I get picked for the T20 team. Honestly, I want to keep working on my game. I want to keep getting better as a T20 batsman, as an ODI batsman, as a Test batsman," Gill said.

Gill was one of the late omissions from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad. He was replaced by an in-form Ishan Kishan as Gill had not been able to get India off to explosive starts. The move worked as Kishan played a big role in India winning their second consecutive T20 World Cup. But, Gill fights on.

"You know, cricket is such a game that you can never really get perfect, but obviously, you can strive for it, and that's what I try to do," he added.

Gill’s chance to win orange cap

In the ongoing season, Gill has 722 runs from 15 games at an average of 48.13. His strike rate is 163.71. Apart from the century in Qualifier 2, he has scored six fifties in the season. He is only behind Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (776 runs) in the race for orange cap.

But, he may not win the orange cap even if he scores 55 runs in the final to get past Sooryavanshi's tally of runs. he faces competition from his opening partner Sai Sudharsan who has 710 runs from 16 innings at an average of 47.33 and strike rate of 159.55. Sudharsan has a century and eight fifties in the season.
