DC will start their IPL 2026 campaign against LSG.

Prithvi Shaw shared an emotional message as he returned to the Arun Jaitley Stadium to rejoin the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the new Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, which is scheduled to start from March 28.

How Shaw rejoined DC?

Shaw’s long journey with Delhi had ended after seven seasons when the team released him before the IPL 2025 auction. The 26-year-old then faced a tough phase, as he went unsold in that auction, with Delhi also choosing not to pick him again at the time.

Things didn’t change immediately in the IPL 2026 auction either, as his name was not picked in the main rounds. But his luck turned in the accelerated round, where he was among the final few players selected. Delhi Capitals brought him back for ₹75 lakh, giving him another chance with the team.

Shaw's message on homecoming

The franchise shared a video of his return with the caption, “Our Boy is back home.” In the video, Shaw spoke about his connection with the ground and the city.

"You don't forget a place like Kotla. Not the noise. Not the silence. Not what it made you," Shaw said. "Some stories don't end. They come back. Delhi, your boy is home," he added.

Shaw first joined Delhi in 2018 after leading India to an Under-19 World Cup win. He was bought for ₹1.2 crore and went on to spend seven seasons with the team. During that time, he played 79 matches and scored 1892 runs, including 14 half-centuries.

DC's last IPL performance

Delhi Capitals had a mixed season last year, finishing fifth with seven wins in 14 matches and just missing out on the playoffs. The team is still chasing its first IPL title and will be hoping to change that this season.

As per the schedule, Delhi Capitals will begin their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 1.
