This was MI's fourth consecutive win in a row in the ongoing IPL 2025 which rocketed them to the third in the points table. Meanwhile, SRH recorded their sixth defeat to remain at the ninth spot in the standings.

Mumbai Indians crush Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets

Trent Boult set the base for for MI's win with a stellar bowling performance, bagging figures of 4 wickets for 26 runs. He effectively dismantled the dangerous opening partnership of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma within the powerplay overs. His impact wasn't limited to the start, as he returned strongly in the death overs to take the crucial wickets of Abhinav Manohar and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins.

Rohit Sharma's back-to-back fifty in MI's triumph

During the chase, Rohit Sharma spearheaded MI' batting effort with his back-to-back fifty, displaying his class with a well-constructed innings of 70 runs from 46 balls. His knock was decorated with eight boundaries and three sixes, ensuring that Mumbai Indians approached the target without breaking a sweat.   

Although Eshan Malinga managed to dismiss Rohit Sharma, the chase had largely become a formality. Suryakumar Yadav then played a composed innings to guide Mumbai Indians to victory, finishing the chase comfortably with 4.2 overs remaining.

Hardik Pandya's MI will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27 at the Wankhede stadium while the depleted SRH will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 25 at the Chepauk stadium.

Earlier, In a dominant bowling display, Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar wreaked havoc, restricting Sunrisers Hyderabad to a modest total of 143 runs for the loss of eight wickets in Wednesday's Indian Premier League encounter in Mumbai.

The opening spells of Boult, who claimed an impressive four wickets for 26 runs, and Chahar, who picked up two wickets for a mere 12 runs, dismantled the SRH batting lineup. At one stage, Pat Cummins' side found themselves in a precarious position at 13 runs for the loss of four wickets within the first five overs. However, a resilient 99-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen, who scored a valiant 71 off 44 balls, and Abhinav Manohar, who contributed 43 off 37 balls, helped Sunrisers Hyderabad recover some lost ground and respectability.

Notably, the entire top order of SRH faltered, with openers Travis Head (0) and Abhishek Sharma (8), along with Ishan Kishan (1) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2), all being dismissed for single-digit scores. As a result, the team could only muster 24 runs by the end of the powerplay. Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually concluded their innings at 143/8, with Boult adding the final flourish by clean bowling their skipper, Pat Cummins, on the last ball. Despite the early collapse, SRH staged a notable comeback, scoring 53 runs in the final five overs.

Trent Boult emerged as the Mumbai Indians' most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 4/26 in his four-over spell. Deepak Chahar also bowled economically and effectively, taking 2/12 in his four overs. Captain Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah each contributed with a wicket apiece.
