Virat Kohli needs 38 more runs to become third batter in IPL history to achieve massive feat against KKR

Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) legendary batter Virat Kohli is on the cusp of scripting history at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Kohli needs 38 more runs In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener to become third batter to score 1,000 or more runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the league's history. 

Kohli has scored 962 runs from 31 innings at an average of 38.48, including one century and six fifties against KKR. The top spot belongs to David Warner who has 1,093 runs from 28 innings against KKR at an average of 43.72, including two centuries and six fifties. He is followed by Mumbai Indians' Rohit Sharma who has 1,070 runs from 34 innings at an average of 39.62, including one century and six fifties.

Kohli has scored 1,000 or more runs against Delhi Capitals (DC), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). No batter in IPL history has 1,000-plus runs against more than two teams. Warner has achieved the feat against PBKS in addition to KKR. Rohit has done it against the same franchiseas as Warner as well.

Milestone awaits the 36-year-old

Kohli is also chasing another milestone. He needs 114 more runs to become first Indian batter to score 13,000 runs. Currently, he has 12,886 runs from 382 innings at an average of 41.43, including nine centuries and 97 fifties. He needs 28 more runs to surpass Warner (12,913 runs) and become fifth-highest run-scorer in T20 history (including franchise cricket, domestic T20 cricket and T20Is).

Another record in chase for Kohli

Meanwhile, Kohli, the 'Chasemaster' is chasing Shikhar Dhawan's IPL record as well. If RCB chase in IPL 2025, Kohli scores 14 runs and the team wins, he will become the leading run-scorer in successful IPL run chases. Currently, he has 2,146 runs from 58 innings including two century and 13 fifties in successful run chases. Dhawan is on top with 2,159 runs from 53 innings including one century and 19 fifties.

In a league of his own

Currently, Kohli is by far the leading run-scorer in IPL. He has 8,004 runs from 244 innings including eight centuries and 55 fifties. The next batter on the list is Dhawan (6,769 runs) who has retired form IPL. Among current cricketers, Rohit is next on the list with 6,628 runs from 252 games.
