Batting superstar Virat Kohli created history on Sunday (April 12) by becoming the first cricketer to score more than 1,000 T20 runs (including IPL and CLT20) against the Mumbai Indians. He reached this milestone during the IPL 2026 match at the Wankhede Stadium. Kohli needed just 20 runs to get there, and he completed it quickly in only 11 balls.
With this, Kohli moved ahead of his India teammates KL Rahul (977 runs) and Shikhar Dhawan (901 runs). Out of the top 10 players on this list, eight are Indians, while the other two are AB de Villiers and David Warner. Kohli is also the only player to achieve this while playing for just one team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which he has represented since the first IPL season in 2008.

Rahul, however, has a strong record against Mumbai Indians too and is not far behind Kohli, despite playing fewer matches.

Rahul also has more runs than Kohli against Mumbai Indians in the IPL specifically. Kohli had 944 runs in the IPL against MI when he was on 20 during this match at Wankhede. But looking at his form, it seems only a matter of time before he goes past that number as well.

Kohli is already the highest run-scorer in IPL history, and Mumbai Indians are not the first team he has scored over 1,000 runs against. He has already reached this mark against Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Still, achieving this milestone against one of the strongest T20 teams, known for having some of the best bowlers, makes it even more special.
