Virat Kohli's fan bears brunt for breaching security to touch RCB superstar's feet during IPL 2025 opener

A security breach occurred during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 opener clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) held on Saturday, March 23 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. A fan, driven by an overwhelming desire to meet cricket icon Virat Kohli, bypassed security measures and entered the field of play.

The enthusiastic fan's actions were captured on video, revealing him rushing towards Kohli, the IPL's all-time leading run-scorer. Upon reaching the celebrated batter, the fan touched Kohli's feet in a gesture of reverence and proceeded to embrace him.

Right after the incident, security personnel intervened and escorted the individual out of the stadium. The video footage of this interaction quickly gained traction and circulated widely across various social media platforms. Later the fan had to bear the brunt for the security breach as he has now been arrested after the incident.

Virat Kohli's batting masterclass was on full display as he led RCB to an emphatic seven-wicket win over the defending champions KKR. Entering the IPL 2025 season with momentum from strong performances against Pakistan and Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025, the 36-year-old continued his impressive run.   

Kohli's blistering fifty saw RCB successfully chasing down a target of 175 with 22 balls to spare.

Kohli cracked a lightning 36-ball 59. The foundation for RCB's successful run-chase was laid by Kohli and Phil Salt, who forged a crucial 95-run opening partnership in just 8.3 overs, setting the stage for their team's victory. 

His partnership with Devdutt Padikkal, which yielded 44 runs for the third wicket, significantly propelled RCB closer to their target

Kohli's steady performance was instrumental in ending RCB's four-match losing streak against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Building upon his impressive form from the previous season, where he earned the Orange Cap, he continued his exceptional run in 2024. Now, with renewed momentum, the Challengers are focused on their upcoming match against the Chennai Super Kings, scheduled for March 28 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
