Punjab Kings CEO reveals well-defined strategy for IPL 2025 auction
Menon hinted at a well-defined strategy for the upcoming mega auction, focusing on assembling a squad that can compete at the highest level and bring the IPL trophy to Punjab.
Punjab Kings made a massive strategic move by appointing former Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting as their head coach right before the IPL 2025 retentions. PBKS CEO Satish Menon believes that Ponting's leadership and expertise will play a crucial role in shaping the team's strategy for the upcoming IPL 2025 auction.

With the goal of building a championship-winning team, Ponting's insights will be instrumental in selecting new players and retaining core members of the current squad. The combination of experienced players and promising young talent is expected to create a well-balanced and competitive team.
"We have seen Prabhsimran develop over the last six years. He is a player that we have put a lot of faith in. We have seen him bloom. He played some fantastic innings last year. We believe he is on the cusp of breaking into the big leagues," Menon said, as quoted by saying by NDTV.
"As far as Shashank is concerned, he is known for his batting at multiple positions in the order. He showed his mettle last season. He continues with the same style and passion. That was one of the big reasons why we retained him. He is a gun fielder. And these two players are the best fits for us," he further added.
Prabhsimran Singh, a wicketkeeper-batsman who has been with PBKS since 2019, has shown steady growth within the franchise. In 34 matches, he has scored 756 runs at an average of 22.24 and a strike rate of 146.23. His retention signifies PBKS's commitment to stability and their belief in his potential.
"We have a plan in place for adding to the core. You will see a lot more surprises as well. You will see the core group forming and we are confident we will go all out and make a big play this season," he said.
"This auction will be critical as we go there with maximum purse. We will build on what we have at the moment. It will be an interesting auction, especially for us, as we also have a new coach in Ricky Ponting. He is one of the sharpest minds in cricket. You will see us develop an extraordinary team. Our goal is to go for silverware this year - nothing short of that," Menon concluded.
Rishabh Pant to join Punjab Kings?
Shashank Singh, a key performer from last season, will also continue his association with PBKS. His impressive contribution of 354 runs in 14 matches, with an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65, has solidified his position in the team. His power-hitting abilities and consistency in the middle order make him a valuable asset. PBKS will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with the biggest purse of Rs 110.5 crore and will have their sights set on big players as they are gunning for their maiden title. Given the need for a captain, PBKS may aggressively pursue players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, or KL Rahul, all of whom have been released by their respective franchises. Notably, Pant and Iyer have previously worked under Ponting at Delhi Capitals, while Rahul has captained PBKS in the past.
