Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant once again failed tro post a big score as the side ended up suffering a six-wicket defeat against the already-eliminated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Ekana Cricket stadium on May 19, Monday.
Rishabh Pant was signed by LSG for INR 27 crore
Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history at the mega auction last year and was signed by LSG for a whopping fee of INR 27 crore. However, the 27-year-old hasn't been able to live up to his enormous price tag and has struggled throughout the IPL 2025 season. The left-handed batter has so far only managed to score a total of 135 runs in 12 matches.
With the defeat against SRH, the Lucknow-based franchise was knocked out of the tournament. Though they had a great start to the season, things fell apart for them in the past few games. LSG are currently on a four-match losing streak and will be looking to end their campaign on a positive note with victories in their remaining two matches that will be against the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru respectively.
Despite Pant's and the team's underwhelming performances, LSG batter Mitchell Marsh backed his skipper for a strong comeback in their remaining league stage matches.
"He'd be the first one to say that he hasn't had the season that he would have liked. But we know that he's a fantastic player, highly skilled and highly talented. So he will be back, hopefully, in the last two games," Marsh said at the post-match press conference.
This season, Marsh has turned out to be a consistent performer in an inconsistent LSG side. The Australian has scoired a total of 443 runs in 11 matchers so far, striking the ball at a rate of 157.09 and maintaining a brilliant average of 40.27.

He has scored five half-centuries in the ongoing season so far and played a stunning knock of 65 runs from 39 deliveries against SRH to propel the Lucknow-based franchise to the massive total of 205/7 in 20 overs.
However, in the end, the target of 206 didn't prove to be enough for LSG as the visitors ended up chasing it in 18.2 overs thanks to valuable innings from Abhishek Sharma (59) and Heinrich Klaasen (47).
