CSK lost to RCB by 2 runs in a high-scoring encounter.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a narrow two-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 3 in a high-scoring contest. After the match, the lbw decision against Dewald Brevis has become a topic of controversy. The South African batter who was running between the wickets after the decision wasn't allowed to opt for DRS to overturn the decision.

The incident took place in the 17th over bowled by Lungi Ngidi. Brevis walked in to bat after opener Ayush Mhatre fell for a 48-ball 94. Ngidi bowled a full toss that hit Brevis on the pads and the ball was clearly going down the leg side. But, umpire Nitin Menon raised his finger.

Brevis scampered for a single and then there was a overthrow as the ball hit the stumps on the non-striker's end. Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja were busy taking the extra run. Meanwhile, the 15-second timer had already started after the umpire raised his finger. But, the timer was not shown on big screen. By the time Brevis discussed with Jadeja about taking the review, he was way past the 15-second time.

The young CSK overseas batter had an argument with the umpire before he left the field. Jadeja had a conversation with the umpire as well but Brevis was not allowed to review the decision.

No Dhoni finish for CSK

While the umpire was well-within his rights to ask Brevis to leave, the big screen at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium faltered. With Brevis getting out for a golden duck, skipper MS Dhoni arrived at the crease. Dhoni struggled barring the six against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the penultimate over. He could score 12 runs from eight balls. Despite Yash Dayal's no-ball delivery going for a maximum, Shivam Dube and a set Jadeja could not take CSK over the line.

RCB rise to the top

CSK remained at the bottom of the points table as they suffered their ninth defeat of the season from 11 matches. Meanwhile, the thrilling win helped Rajat Patidar-led RCB rise to the top spot. They have eight wins from 11 games, closer to the playoffs berth.
