Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill missed his side’s second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on April 4. Gill’s absence was felt as GT faltered in the run chase despite a 73-run knock from Sai Sudharsan. Stand-in captain Rashid Khan said that it is just a 'muscle spasm' and Gill should be able to play the next game. Also, GT assistant coach Parthiv Patel ruled out any possibility of a ‘serious’. He compared in to the neck sprain that ruled him out of the South Africa Test series.
“Obviously, he had a neck sprain before, and he had a spasm a couple of days back. Hoping he’s fit for the coming game. It doesn’t look like that serious," Patel told broadcasters.

“Injury management is not my forte. But I can definitely tell you that he should be fine," he added.

Rashid hopes that Gill returns for the next game.
“He's good. Hopefully he's gonna be alright for the next game. He just had the muscle spasm, so hopefully he's gonna be alright soon," the Afghanistan all-rounder said in the post-match presentation.
Who replaced Gill?
The 26-year-old scored 39 runs from 27 balls against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in GT's campaign opener. On April 4, Kumar Kushagra made his IPL debut, opening alongside Sudharsan. Kushagra hit three fours in his 14-ball 18. He lost his wicket to RR skipper Riyan Parag after the powerplay overs.
GT’s next match
The Titans have lost both their matches in the season so far. Their next match is against Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals (DC) who have won both their games. The clash will take place on April 8 at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium.
On April 4, they beat five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at home by six wickets as Sameer Rizvi scored 90 runs.
Gil has a good record against DC, scoring 486 runs from 16 innings at an average of 32.4 and strike rate of 135. He has three fifties against DC, including an unbeaten 93 in the run chase last season.
