Chahal was the subject of a fierce bidding war between several franchises, including Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Ultimately, Punjab Kings secured his services for a record-breaking price. Chahal's impressive bowling record in both international and domestic T20 cricket has solidified his position as one of the best spinners in the world. With 96 wickets in 80 T20Is and 354 wickets in 305 overall T20 matches, he has consistently delivered match-winning performances.

I will also get to learn a lot from Ricky Ponting: Yuzvendra Chahal

During a conversation with JioCinema, Chahal revealed that he experienced a mix of nervousness and anxiety during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

"I was quite nervous and anxious because this amount is what I got in the last three seasons combined. I think I deserve this price, and I am very excited," Chahal told Jio Cinema.

"I'm excited as my bond with Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh is strong, and I will also get to learn a lot from Ricky Ponting sir. At least I'm closer to home now. It was Jaipur initially, and now it will be Chandigarh," he added.

Chahal remains the leading wicket-taker for Royal Challengers Bangalore, despite leaving the team in 2021 after a successful seven-year stint. During his time with RCB, he claimed 139 wickets in 113 matches at an impressive average of 22.03. Since joining Rajasthan Royals in 2022, Chahal has been instrumental in helping the team qualify for the playoffs in two out of three seasons. He currently holds the record for the most wickets in IPL history, with 205 wickets in 160 matches. His outstanding performance in 2022 earned him the Purple Cap, as he took 27 wickets in 17 matches. Punjab Kings, Chahal's new team, have struggled to reach the playoffs in recent years, finishing ninth in the 2024 season. Their last playoff appearance was in 2014, when they were runners-up.
