Soumya Sarkar scored a spellbinding 169-run knock in 2nd ODI against New Zealand.

Sarkar blasted 22 fours and two sixes to help Bangladesh a total of 291 runs.

Bangladesh's star opener Soumya Sarkar scripted history after busting Sachin Tendulkar's 14-year-old record in the second ODI against New Zealand on December 20, Wednesday. 

Soumya struck a phenomenal 169 runs off 151 balls, at a strike rate of 111.92 which was decorated with a barrage of 22 boundaries and two sixes, dominating the New Zealand bowling lineup in the first innings.

30-year-old Soumya rode on his incredible knock against New Zealand to eclipse Tendulkar's record for the highest ODI score in New Zealand by a sub-continent player. Tendulkar's previous record was an unbeaten 163-run inning against New Zealand in Christchurch back in 2009.

 

 

Not just this, Soumya also set a new record for the highest ODI score by a Bangladeshi player on foreign soil. 
 

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl first at Saxton Oval against Bangladesh.

Soumya remained the top scorer for Bangladesh as no other no other batter managed to surpass the half-century mark in the first innings. Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim contributed with 45 runs from 57 balls, playing a crucial role in the middle order and helped Bangladesh post a total of 291 runs on the board. Apparently this was Bangladesh's highest ODI total in New Zealand.

 

For New Zealand Jacob Duffy and William O'Rourke impressed with their bowling effort, each claiming three wickets in their bowling spells. They were supported by Adam Milne, Josh Clarkson, and Adithya Ashok, who each took one wicket each.

 

Facing a target of 292 runs in 50 overs, New Zealand needed to achieve this score to secure their second win in the ongoing three-match ODI series.

 

Later, riding on Henry Nicholls' superb 95 and Will Young's impressive 89 New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets to clinch the three-match series 2-0 with a match to spare.
