New Zealand's spin attack led by Azaz Patel forced a historic whitewash on Rohit Sharma's team. Indian cricket team suffered their first-ever clean sweep loss in a three-match Test series at home. Ajaz picked up 11 wickets and completely took the hosts out of the match. Tom Latham's side defeated India by 25 runs in the third and Final Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, on November 3 and did something that not even a single person would have imagined prior to these three matches.
Rishabh Pant's valiant efforts in vain
After India lost five wickets for 29 runs in 7.1 overs in the opening session of Day 3, Pant attacked the opposition spinners. The left-handed batter reached a half-century off 48 balls during the first session itself. Pant gave it everything he had during the second session before leaving. Pant was out to Ajaz Patel on the fourth ball of the 22nd over. Tom Blundell grabbed the ball as Pant attempted to sprint down the wicket. However, it was a controversial dismissal.
Pant did not get bat to ball, according to the on-field umpire, hence it was declared not out. However, captain Tom Latham and Ajaz insisted that Pant had edged. When the ball was behind the bat, replays revealed a spike. However, it appeared that the bat might have struck the pads as well. The third umpire decided in favour of the fielding team, even though there was a chance the call might go either way.
India could only add 15 more runs after Pant's dismissal before the Indian team was bowled out for 121 in the final innings and the match was called in New Zealand's favour.
Ajaz Patel's romance with Wankhede continues
When Ajaz Patel played at Wankhede last time he took a 10-wicket haul and 14 in total. This time around he took a total of 11 wickets, fifer in both innings and also became the overseas bowler with most wickets at a single venue in India.
