Former India captain Virat Kohli opened up on cheers when the batter ahead of him gets out after the first ODI against New Zealand at BCA Stadium, Kotambi, Vadodara. The 37-year-old came to bat after Rohit Sharma's dismissal in the ODI opener against New Zealand, but soon after the opener's dismissal, the crowd in Vadodra gone breserk to witness Kohli's batting.

When asked about how he felt about that, Kohli honestly admitted that he doesn't feel good about it, recalling MS Dhoni's fandom in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, Dhoni also face the same in the IPL as fans often celebrate Ravindra Jadeja's wicket as he came to bat before the five-time IPL winning captain. Kohli further stated that he understands the crowd gets excited.
"I honestly don't feel good about it, I've seen it with MS too. I understand the crowd get excited. I just try to keep the focus on the game. I feel grateful; it's a blessing (that people come and watch him). Makes me happy when I see happy faces," said Kohli in the post-match presentation.

Kohli's performance in 1st ODI against New Zealand
Kohli, who smashed two consecutive centuries against South Africa in his last international assignment, has missed out on his 85th international century by seven runs. The modern-day great was dismissed by Kyle Jamieson when he was batting on 93 runs.
Kohli becomes second highest run-getter
In the first ODI against New Zealand, Kohli surpassed Sri Lanka's great Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-getter in ODIs. He also becomes the fastest batter to reach 28,000 international runs across formats. He reached the landmark in his 624th innings by hitting a boundary off leg-spinner Adithya Ashok.
Sachin Tendulkar had reached the same mark in 644 innings, while Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara did so in 666 innings. Kohli began the match with 27,975 international runs. Tendulkar remains the leading run-scorer with 34,357 runs, while Sangakkara finished with 28,016.

Virat Kohli reigned supreme once again with a 91-ball 93 and skipper Shubman Gill hit 56 but India huffed and puffed before completing a nervy four-wicket win against New Zealand in the opening ODI of the three-match series.
