Charith Asalanka slams 127 vs Australia amidst batting collapse, leaves Virat Kohli behind on this list to take 3rd spot

Australia in the first ODI of the series. Asalanka registered the highest ODI score by a Sri Lanka captain against Australia. He also surpassed Virat Kohli on the list of captains with highest score against Australia.
 

5. Former India captain MS Dhoni had scored 124 runs from 107 balls against Australia in Nagpur in 2009. India went on to beat Ricky Ponting-led side by 99 runs.
 

4. Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis scored 125 runs from 114 balls including 15 fours and two sixes against Aaron Finch-led Australia in 2018. After setting a target of 321, South Africa won the match by 40 runs in Hobart.
 

3. Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka scored 127 runs from 126 balls featuring 14 fours and five sixes. He helped Sri Lanka recover from 135/8. They were bowled out for 214. This is also the second-highest score by Sri Lankan batter in ODIs against Australia.
 

2. Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers scored an unbeaten 136 off 106 balls including 11 fours and couple of sixes against George Bailey-led Australia in 2014. In the run chase of 328, South Africa won by seven wickets. Apart from De Villiers, Faf du Plessis scored a century in the successful run chase as well.
 

1. Indian captain MS Dhoni registered an unbeaten 139 off 121 balls including 12 fours and five sixes in 2013. Dhoni's knock helped India post 303/9. However, India ended up on the losing side as James Faulkner's five sixes off Ishant Sharma helped them get over the line with three balls to spare and four wickets in hand.
 

Before Charith Asalanka's knock, Virat Kohli was in top five. Kohli scored 123 runs from 95 balls including 16 fours and a six in Ranchi in 2019. In the run chase of 314, Kohli scored a century but it went in vain as India lost the match by 32 runs.
