Ajinkya Rahane withdraws from Mumbai's rest of Ranji Trophy 2025-26

Mumbai veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane has reportedly informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will not be playing in the remaining Ranji Trophy matches this season due to personal reasons. Mumbai is set to play their first of two remaining league games against Hyderabad from January 22-25, away from home, before returning to the MCA-BKC ground to face Delhi from January 29 to February 1.

The Indian Express reported that Rahane has informed MCA that he won’t be available for the remaining two red-ball games, as the Mumbai team for the Hyderabad match will be announced on January 17.

Rahane's current Ranji performance

The 37-year-old has been representing Mumbai for the past two seasons but has not played for India since July 2023. He is also part of the Kolkata Knight Riders squad for the upcoming IPL season. Rahane has had a modest Ranji Trophy season so far, scoring just one century in four matches.

Before this season, Rahane stepped down as Mumbai’s captain, saying it was time to groom a youngster for the role. Shardul Thakur has taken over as the new captain. Despite giving up the captaincy, Rahane had expressed his commitment to continue contributing as a player.

Mumbai in Ranji Trophy points table

Mumbai currently sit on top of Group D in the Ranji Trophy points table, with 24 points from five matches, including three wins and two draws, heading into their last two league games.

Rahane's last international Test outing

Ajinkya Rahane's last international outing came against the West Indies in 2023. The Test great has represented India in 85 Tests and amassed 5077 runs, including 12 centuries and 26 half-centuries. He also featured for India in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia, where he scored 135 runs in two innings. However, Australia defeated India by 209 runs to get the Test mace.
