Maharashtra wrapped up a convincing 144-run win against Chandigarh on the final day of their Ranji Trophy 2025-26 Group B match, followed by brilliant bowling from Mukesh Choudhary and Ramakrishna Shekhar Ghosh. Both pacers picked up four wickets each to register the dominating win.
Chandigarh is unable to chase down 464 vs Maharashtra
Chandigarh were chasing the mammoth 464-run target after Prithvi Shaw’s explosive 222 had put Maharashtra firmly in control. They had finished the third day at 129 for one, raising some hope of a fightback. However, they were eventually bowled out for 319 in 94.1 overs on the fourth evening.
Best performers for Chandigarh
The home side needed a couple of big partnerships to stay in the clash, but apart from opener Arjun Azad, who played a brilliant knock of 168 from 236 balls, no one else was able to make a major contribution. This was only the 24-year-old’s second first-class match, and impressively, his second consecutive century after scoring 141 against Goa on debut.
Skipper Manan Vohra (58) and Raj Bawa (42) offered some resistance, but the rest of the batting lineup collapsed quickly, with no one else even managing double figures.
Maharashtra's bowling
For Maharashtra, Choudhary and Ghosh were outstanding with the ball, finishing with figures of 4 for 34 and 4 for 71, respectively. Their combined effort ensured Chandigarh never got close to the target.
The result earned Maharashtra a full six points, while Chandigarh went home empty-handed.
While the bowlers did the finishing job, a lot of credit goes to Prithvi Shaw, whose blazing double century, one of the fastest ever in Ranji Trophy history, set up the win perfectly. His innings gave Maharashtra not just a massive total but also enough time to bowl out Chandigarh twice and secure an outright win.
Brief scores:
Maharashtra: 313 all out and 359/3 declared in 52 overs (Prithvi Shaw 222) vs Chandigarh: 209 all out in 73 overs and 319 all out in 94.1 overs (Arjun Azad 168; Mukesh Choudhary 4/34, Ramakrishna Shekhar Ghosh 4/71).
