'12th Fail' director's son goes berserk, records third century in a row to run riot in Ranji Trophy again

'12th Fail' movie director Vidhu Vinod Chopra's son Agni Chopra continued to breath fire in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-2024 match between Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh. Over the past few months, the movie '12th Fail' has captivated cinema lovers. Based on the life of IPS Manoj Sharma, the film has been receiving widespread praise. While Vidhu Vinod Chopra continues to make a mark in the film industry, his son Agni Chopra is running riot with his blistering batting as he recorded his third back-to-back century for Mizoram in the ongoing season of Ranji Trophy, this time against Arunachal Pradesh to prove his prowess.

 

Notably, Agni Chopra made his Ranji Trophy debut this season and has been on a run spree ever since. In his third First-Class match against Arunachal Pradesh, he scored a splendid knock of 114 runs to help Mizoram beat Arunachal Pradesh. His knock was studded with 18 fours and two sixes. 

 

Talking about the match, Mizoram set up a total of 323 runs, in response to which Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 265 in the first innings and 134 in the second respectively, handing Agni Chopra's team a target of 77 runs. Mizoram overhauled the lowly target with eight wickets to spare. In the second innings Agni scored 10 runs before being run out. This victory was Mizoram's first in three matches, following one loss and one draw in the previous two.

 

Agni Chopra's dream debut in Ranji Trophy 2023-2024

 

25-year-old Agni made his First-Class debut in the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy in a match against Sikkim. He scored a magnificent 166 and 92 runs in his first appearance. Despite his efforts, Mizoram couldn't win the match. Following his first match heroics, Agni cracked another century in the second match against Nagaland. He dazzled with 164 runs in the first innings and followed it up with 15 more runs in the second innings.

With this Agni has so far amassed 561 runs in three matches with an average of 93.50 and a strike rate of 106.85, including 72 fours and 14 sixes.

 

Agni Chopra's Journey from Mumbai to Mizoram

 

Initially playing for Mumbai, Agni did not get opportunities at the senior level, leading him to shift to Mizoram this season. He made his debut in List A and T20 cricket from Mizoram. In the List A Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 174 runs in seven matches at an average of 24.85, including one half-century. However, he performed better in the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 234 runs in seven matches at an average of 33.42 and a strike rate of 150.96, notching up two half-centuries.
