South Africa's Senuran Muthusamy scripted history on Day 2 of second Test against India at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on November 23. Muthusamy scored a century, becoming the second visiting South African to do so on Indian soil. Before him, Quinton de Kock was the only no.7 Proteas batter to score a Test century in India.

Muthusamy became the 10th no.7 visiting batter to achieve the feat on Indian soil. He joined the likes of Mahela Jayawardene and Adam Gilchrist. Here is the list -

South Africa's lower order frustrate India

Muthusamy and wicketkeeper-batter Kyle Verreynne shared an 88-run partnership for the seventh wicket. They denied India a single wicket in the first session of Day 2. In the second session, Muthusamy switched gears with Marco Jansen arriving at the other end. Both batters frustrated Indian batters. Muthusamy reached his century from 191 balls in the 135th over. South Africa were 428/7 after the second session. Jansen had crossed the fifty-run mark as well.

In the second over after the lunch break, Muthusamy lost his wicket to Mohammed Siraj. He got caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at fine leg. The southpaw's knock featured 10 fours and two sixes. He shared a 97-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Jansen.

Muthusamy’s run with bat

This is Muthusamy’s maiden Test century. He replaced Corbin Bosch in the playing eleven. The 31-year-old had scored an unbeaten 89 against Pakistan in Rawalpindi previous month. From 11 innings, he has scored 388 runs, averaging 55.42, including a century and two fifties.
