India's main pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been missing from action for the national team since before the T20 World Cup after he sustained a back injury, and after news emerged of him missing the ongoing Sri Lanka series, recent reports have now suggested that the pacer is all set to sit on the sidelines for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy as well.

Earlier, Bumrah had cleared a match simulation test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru but was under discomfort on the second day of building up to higher workloads in Mumbai. If everything goes right in his rehabilitation, Bumrah can be in contention for the second half of the Test series against Australia.

After being included in the ODI squad for the series against Sri Lanka, Bumrah's absence for the upcoming three matches was confirmed in a release by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 9 (Monday). The release stated that the right-arm pacer 'will need some more time to build bowling resilience, while no replacement has been named for the 29-year-old.

"Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka," BCCI said in a release.

"Bumrah, who was set to join the team in Guwahati ahead of the ODI series, will need some more time to build bowling resilience. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has not named any replacement for Jasprit Bumrah,” the release added.

Earlier in the day, Sports Tak had confirmed that Bumrah will miss the ODI series against the Islanders after a source had revealed that the BCCI doesn't want to rush Bumrah back into the national setup with multiple big-ticket bilateral and multinational tournaments scheduled to be played in 2023.

"BCCI has taken the call not to rush with (Jasprit) Bumrah as we need him fit for major tournaments which are planned this year," a source told Sports Tak on the condition of anonymity.

The right-arm pacer was initially not included in the ODI squad but on January 03, the Indian cricket board announced the Mumbai Indians pacer has been roped into the squad.
