New Zealand legend Kane Williamson, who is currently doing commentary in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, lavished praise on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star Virat Kohli for his batting skills. Kohli is currently going through the purple patch of his career. He scored 248 runs in six IPL outings at an average 62.00 and the franchise are currently on number three in the points table tally with four wins in six matches.
During his recent trip to Mumbai, Williamson participated in a special event with young cricketers as part of JioStar ‘s “Star Nahi Far” initiative – an outreach program aimed at inspiring the next generation of Indian cricketers. In a fun Q&A session with kids, Williamson was asked a question
“If you could borrow one shot from any cricketer, which one would it be?” a fan asked.
The New Zealand star answered without hesitation that, “I think it would be Virat Kohli’s flick off his legs,”
After some time during the same session, the conversation shifted towards cricketing idols where Williamson picked cricketing god Sachin Tendulkar as his idol.
“My cricketing idol was a guy who played at the maidan we were just at. Sachin Tendulkar—he’s the legend. I still see him playing sometimes,” Williamson concluded.
Williamson shares a great bond with former India captain Virat Kohli; both stars recently featured against each other in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where Rohit Sharma-led India defeated New Zealand in both the outings (third league clash and the final).
Earlier, After getting unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, Williamson was picked by Karachi Kings for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 but the star is currently missing that as well due to a quad injury. Williamson is expected to join the PSL franchise before the sixth clash of the team.
