Legendary India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin brought his time as a player in IPL to an end on Wednesday , August 27 and announced a sudden retirement from the cash-rich league. This came after the spinner had featured for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025 which had seen him complete 8 seasons with the franchise.
Ashwin wasn't able to impress much in the latest season of IPL as he only picked up seven scalps in the nine matches that he played for CSK. There were rumours that the 38-year-old would part ways with the franchise before the next season, however he ended up retiring from the tournament altogether.

The spinner has now revealed why he took such a drastic decision. He explained that he no longer has the energy to feature in a 3-month long IPL campaign. He further remarked that he doesn't have enough bandwidth left to play at his age.
“I was thinking if I can play IPL next year. Three months of IPL is a little too much for me. It’s draining. This is one of the reasons why I’m awe-struck by seeing someone like MS Dhoni. As you grow older, the bandwidth to play IPL becomes less," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

In his retirement post, Ashwin had made it clear that his journey in the IPL may have come to an end, but his time as a player in the foreign T20 leagues is just beginning. There is a massive possibility that the 38-year-old will be seen playing in overseas T20 leagues in the coming future.
"Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ashwin had written on his social media handle.
