Abhishek Sharma hits 28-ball century.

He surpassed Chris Gayle.

Rising Indian opener Abhishek Sharma tied the record for the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian. Days after Urvil Patel reached his century off just 28 balls, Abhishek hammered a hundred in the same number of balls while competing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With this, he even surpassed legendary Chris Gayle, who smashed his fastest T20 ton in 30 balls for RCB in 2013 during match against Pune Warriors.

Abhishek destroyed Meghalaya, securing the score in just 9.3 overs while chasing 143 runs in Rajkot. Abhishek scored 98 runs in only boundaries during his innings, smashing 11 sixes and 8 fours. This year, Abhishek Sharma's stocks have increased dramatically. Sharma made his debut for India against Zimbabwe and scored an incredible century following an incredible performance in the Indian Premier League.

Abhishek has amassed 256 runs at a strike rate of 171.81 from 12 T20Is for India, despite his erratic play. After participating in 63 IPL games, Abhishek has amassed 1376 runs with a strike rate of 155.13.

Urvil Patel's knock

Urvil Patel of Gujarat earlier on November 27th broke the record for the fastest century by an Indian batsman in Twenty20 cricket. At the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Indore, the right-handed hitter hit a century off of 28 balls against Tripura. The record was formerly held by Rishabh Pant, who crushed a hundred runs off of 32 balls for Delhi versus Himachal Pradesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi in 2018.

Gujarat managed to chase down 156 with 58 balls remaining thanks to Urvil's unbeaten 113 off 35 balls, which included seven fours and 12 sixes. In T20 cricket, Patel also hit the second-fastest hundred. Sahil Chauhan of Estonia is the record holder with a century off of 27 balls when his team defeated Cyprus at the Happy Valley Ground earlier this year.

In November 2023, he also achieved the second-fastest century by an Indian in List A cricket. In Gujarat's match against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh, Urvil reached his century in just 41 balls. Yusuf Pathan's 40-ball century for Baroda against Maharashtra in 2010 was only one ball slower.
