After the conclusion of T20 World Cup, Afghanistan will be hosting Bangladesh in India for the white-ball series in July. Afghanistan will return to Shahid Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Noida after four years for the home series against Bangladesh.
As per the tentative schedule, learnt by Sports Tak, the two teams are expected to play three ODIs and three T20Is between July 25 and August 6.
Bangladesh will arrive in Greater Noida via New Delhi on July 22. They'll have a couple of days for training before their first ODI. There will be a one-day gap between each ODI, while the T20I series will be played under lights, starting on August 2nd.
Afghanistan Returns to Greater Noida for Home Series
The upcoming white-ball series between Afghanistan and Bangladesh marks a significant return for Afghan cricket. The Greater Noida venue, which once served as their home base, will host international cricket for the first time since March 2020.
This move follows a period of displacement for the Afghan team. After the Taliban takeover in August 2021, they primarily played their home matches in the United Arab Emirates. However, discussions between the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the 2023 ODI World Cup paved the way for a return to India.
This isn't the first time Greater Noida has hosted Afghan cricket. Back in 2015, a long-term agreement between the BCCI, ACB, and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority allowed Afghanistan to hold international matches there. However, after gaining full ICC membership in 2017, they briefly shifted their home base to Dehradun, followed by a logistically challenging stint in Lucknow in 2019. Ultimately, they returned to the familiar ground of Greater Noida for a series against the West Indies before this upcoming event.
The schedule (tentative)
July 25: First ODI
July 27: Second ODI
July 30: Third ODI
August 2: First T20I
August 4: Second T20I
August 6: Third T20I
