Former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik's coaching career has gone global and he has now been appointed as the mentor and batting coach of London Spirit in The Hundred. This comes after he had achieved success with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025 as their mentor and batting coach. Under his guidance, the team ended an 18-year wait and won their first-ever IPL title.
The connection between RCB and London Spirit
Notably, RCB and London Spirit share the same head coach and Director of Cricket in Andy Flower and Mo Bobat respectively. They have expressed faith in him and have brought him over to London, hoping to replicate his success in the IPL. The London Spirit haven't won The Hundred even once ever since the tournament's first edition was played in 2021. The Oval Invincibles have won the tournament for the past three seasons while Trent Rockets and Southers won in 2022 and 2021 respectively.
Bobat expressed excitement over Karthik's appointment and remarked that the latter will lift everyone's moods with his energy and enthusiasm.
"It’s a pleasure to welcome DK to London Spirit. He is an original thinker with vast experience in short-format cricket. His energy and enthusiasm lift everyone around him, and bringing in someone of his stature shows the level of support we want to provide our players," Bobat said in a statement.
Karthik opens up on the move
Karthik himself also shared his excitement on the move, remarking that spending a summer at Lord's is a dream come true for him. Notably, it is the same venue where he had made his debut for India and had signed off from Test cricket.
“What an exciting time to be joining London Spirit. The plans and ambition shared by Mo, MCC and the Tech Titans immediately stood out to me. Spending an English summer at Lord’s is a dream come true. I’m looking forward to the squad coming together and working with some exceptional cricketers next year," Karthik said in a statement.
