Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has taken the Pakistan Super League (PSL) route after losing out on Rs 9.2 crore contract with the three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
“Batters better shake carefully… it’s going to Fizz in the #NewEra. Mustafizur Rahman joins HBL PSL 11!" PSL posted on social media.
The statement came days after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) instructed KKR to release Mustafizur from their squad. KKR are yet to name a replacement for the Bangladesh pacer. As PSL shifts from having drafts to an IPL-style auction, Mustafizur is set to go under the hammer.

When was the last time Mustafizur played PSL?
Mustafizur will return to PSL after a long hiatus of eight years. In 2018, he played for Lahore Qalandars under the leadership of Brendon McCullum. He played five games and claimed four wickets at an average of 25.75. His economy rate was 6.43 runs per over.

During his absence from the PSL, Mustafizur played several IPL seasons. Made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their title-winning season, he went on to play for Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC). From 60 IPL games, he has claimed 65 wickets.
Apart from Bangladesh's premier T20 competition, the BPL, Mustafizur has played just one each season each in England's T20 Blast, Sri Lanka's Lanka Premier League (LPL), and, UAE's ILT20.
After effects of Mustafizur’s ouster
Meanwhile, Bangladesh government has resorted to suspending the IPL broadcast in the country. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift their T20 World Cup 2026 matches out of India citing security reasons. But, Sports Tak has learnt that ICC has rejected the BCB's request. Bangladesh have two options in front of them. They can either travel to India as per the existing schedule. Otherwise, they will have to forfeit. In doing so, they will lose out on a big chunk of T20 World Cup revenue as well.
